GLOSSARY

Ask Price

The ask price is the price a broker asks traders to pay to buy an asset.

When you buy something, you pay the price the seller is asking. When trading financial markets, products are quoted with two prices; the bid price and the ask price.

The ask price is what the broker is asking you to pay, so whenever you place a buy order or open a long position, that order is executed using the ask price.

The ask price is always greater than the bid price because the broker always wants to sell at a higher price than it buys. The difference between the bid price and the ask price is known as the spread.

Consider a used car dealer; they bid on used cars for less than they intend to offer them to buyers. The difference between the price the car dealer buys and sells is how it makes money, and a forex broker makes money the same way.
